Twenty years after the first-gen Rode NT1 dropped and flipped the proverbial table of the studio world, we get the NT1 5th Gen: a large-diaphragm condenser microphone boasting an extreme dynamic range and USB as well as XLR connectivity. This progressive studio microphone comes bundled up with an SM6 shockmount with an integrated pop filter, an XLR cable and a USB-C cable.

Revolutionary Design

With a mere 4dB-A self-noise level, the NT1 5th Gen is, at the moment of writing, the most silent large-diaphragm condenser on Earth, and to get the most out of the enormous dynamic range, no corner has been cut when it comes to the internal preamp. The Rode Revolution preamp immediately unleashes clean and punchy sound wiped clean of noise - and this level of quality is only elevated by the resolution. When USB-connected, this microphone is able to record audio in 192kHz quality with a 32-bit floating point - meaning that distortion is virtually impossible.

XLR & USB

In the process, Rode has also managed to design a unique and exclusive connection port: the Rode Dual Connect, which neatly combines an XLR port with a USB-C, setting you up with both options in one. So now, rather than forking out for a separate USB mike, you get a model that you can either hook up to a mixer or audio interface via a standard XLR cable or connect directly to your computer via USB. It's that neat and that simple. And you're not even limited to using just one USB microphone at once: connect multiple NT1 5th Gen condensers up to a USB hub and your computer will recognise the setup as a single audio interface.
